I dress in another pair of combat trousers and a black top with short sleeves. Once Iâm dressed, I leave the tent and venture over to the communal tent for some food. As I walk through the Seelie tents, Vex falls into step at the side of me.
âWhat do you want?â I say to him in a low voice, conscious that others could easily listen in.
He ignores me and extends a hand. âIâm Dom and you are?â he says loud enough for the other Fae that are standing around to hear.
âScarlet,â I say, playing along, but I donât grab his hand and shake it.
Once we are out of range of the others, he grabs my wrist and pulls me to a stop.
âI hope my precious Silence is okay. Iâd really hate to see your friends die just because sheâs too weak to survive,â he says to me, his face twisted and bitter, showing the real Vex underneath.
âIf youâre just here to taunt me, Dom, then youâre wasting your time,â I say, snatching my hand away.
âI suggest you start paying attention to me, my dear, I wouldnât want one of your friends to have an accident that ends in tragedy tomorrow,â he says, stepping closer to me.
I scowl at him until I see Bastian walk around the corner and stop, watching me, then I plaster on a fake smile.
âThatâs better, I know heâs watching you because Iâve been watching him. Iâd like you to do me a favour. Bryn needs to die, heâs asking far too many questions and heâs getting in the way.â
I wasnât opposed to the idea but if Vex wanted it done there was more to it than he was letting on.
âExactly how am I meant to do that?â I ask him.
âYouâll find a way. If you donât, Iâll start with your brother, the Human one. Smile, dear,â he says before walking off.
I smile automatically, doing exactly what he is telling me to do. Well, I did get one thing from that conversation, he wasnât aware that Aylesbury was Lycan yet, so he doesnât know everything like he always makes out. I look at Bastian who begins to walk towards me and my heart beats louder in my ears. I try to calm it all the while thinking I was in way over my head and should just tell him, but then I was playing a dangerous game.
âWho was that?â Bastian asks as he reaches my side.
âApparently his name is Dom.â I pause then say, âHe wanted to introduce himself.â
âHe is the same Fae that was in Jaredâs tent yesterday,â Bastian says. I can tell heâs interrogating me.
âYeah, he is, thatâs why he wanted to introduce himself. He didnât want to appear rude yesterday.â I watch his face then say, âIf you donât believe me ask the other Seelie that were around, they heard him introduce himself.â
